Klawervlei Stallion Day by Sarah Whitelaw
Klawervlei’s Stallion Day, held last Sunday afternoon, proved to be one of the highlights of the season.
Following welcoming speeches by Markus Jooste and John Koster, guests were then treated to a viewing of the farm’s stallions, which included the proven sires National Emblem, Count Dubois and Captain Al. The latter is fully booked for the up-coming season, and looked in the pink of health, whilst it is hard to believe that National Emblem, who bucked and kicked throughout his time in the tent, is 19 years old!
Young sires Seventh Rock, Jay Peg, Rebel King, Oracy and Albert Hall were also shown off, as was European Gr1 winner King’s Apostle, whose star is on the rise due to the ongoing success of sire, King’s Best.
Jay Peg has truly grown into an imposing and powerful stallion, whilst the recently retired Seventh Rock also stood out as a high-quality and classy individual.
A special mention should be given to Piet, who handled the stallions superbly.
Following the showing of the stallions, guests were treated to a delicious meal. There was also wine tasting available from some of the country’s top wine estates, which down extremely well.
All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day, and the team at Klawervlei should be congratulated on putting on such a wonderful show.
