Ever since Big City Life’s fluent Durban July win, Casey Tibbs has been in the limelight. In August, Casey was represented by seven individual winners, whilst Big City Life strolled off with an Equus Award as champion 3yo colt.

His son Cyber Case, a half-brother to new Klawervlei sire Jay Peg, won a feature race on the last day of August. The Charles Laird trained gelding set a fast time when winning the Flamingo Park Sprint over 1000 meters. Cyber Case, now a winner of five races, is a full brother to stakes placed Cabernet Kid. Their dam, Laptop Lady, is a daughter of Al Mufti.  Cyber Case’s success was a real testimony to the versatility of Casey Tibbs, whose offspring win from 1000 -3200 meters, on both surfaces.

Another talented sprinter sired by Casey Tibbs is Casey Cool. A horse with a powerful late burst of speed, Casey Cool reeled off an impressive win at Kenilworth last month, defeating the useful Mike Bass runner Noble Act by over a length. Casey Cool has been ultra consistent of late, having won or placed in his last seven starts. His dam, Some Dame, is a winning sister to Gr1 winning sprinter Nobely Born.

Tassie Belle broke her maiden in fine style, when winning by over four lengths at Kenilworth for.

Ridden by the in form Greg Cheyne, the three-year-old filly drew clear of her opposition in good style and should add to her winning tally. Tassie Belle is out of the Gp3 winner Symphony of Joy, a daughter of top broodmare sire Argosy.

Loving Cup won her second race in her last three outings when justifying favouritism at Kenilworth last month. The mare just held on to deny the late flying Oyster Bay by a head. It was a good win from Loving Cup, as she had to give the runner up 10 pounds. Loving Cup is an out and out sprinter, having never won over further than 1000 meters.  She is in great form at the moment, having won or been placed in her last four outings.

Other winners for Casey last month include King Kiwi, Bottom Line and Great Heart.

Recently crowned champion juvenile sire Captain Al had a fine month. He was given due recognition at the Equus Awards when given an outstanding achievements award for his fine season and is understandably booked full for the upcoming season.

His 3yo daughter Seminole defeated another highly regarded Captain Al filly in Emmjo when winning her second race at Kenilworth recently. She kicked on late to hold off Emmajo, who is regarded as a top filly by her trainer, Justin Snaith. Superbly bred, Seminole is out of the lightning fast Wolf Power filly Lupine Lady.

Narrowly beaten in a stakes race at two, Seminole is trained by Mike Bass.

Mainbrace has been a tough and consistent performer. The five-year-old recently won his fourth race when successful at Scottsville over 1000 meters. Trained by Basil Marcus, Mainbrace should still have wins in the tank. His dam, Play Hard, is by champion sprinter Hard Up. Mainbrace himself is an own brother to smart filly Girl In Every Port.

Ricky My Son landed his second race when triumphant at Scottsville over 1000 meters. Trained by Kum Naidoo, Ricky My Son, who had run third last time out, drew clear in the final stages of the race to win by a length and a half. Her dam, Yesterday’s Song, was a talented racemare, winning seven races and being stakes placed.

Charles Laird has done very well with the progeny of his former stable star, and Red Lucifer gave the champion trainer another win when successful over 1450 meters at Clairwood. He drew clear to beat the highly regarded Scarpa Flow by a length and three quarters. On this form, Red Lucifer should have more wins to come. His dam, Blushing Bloom, is a winning daughter of Harry Hotspur and hails from the family of the ill fated Victory Moon.
