‘Fillies Championship’ goes to Captain Al
Captain Al
Captain Al's outstanding 3-y-o daughter, Captain's Lover (below, below centre; bred by Mr W Engelbrecht jnr) gave her sire yet another boost when easily winning the G2 Odessa Fillies Championship.
Owned by Team Valor & Mrs Vanashree & Mr Anant Singh, the filly oozed class as she outclassed some of the best fillies around over the 7 furlong trip. Just once beaten to date when desperately unlucky in the Diana Stakes, Captain's Lover looks the best 3-y-o filly in the country at the moment. She continued the fine spell her trainer Justin Snaith is enjoying.
Out of a Badger Land mare, Sunshine Lover, Captain's Lover completely outclassed the proven G1 performers Nania and Ice Belle in the Fillies Championship. Captain Al was also represented by a number of other winners during the month. Another talented daughter of his, is Girl in Every Port (bred by Normandy Stud). Like Captain's Lover, she is trained by Justin Snaith.
She has now won 2 in a row, following a comprehensive defeat of the very smart Rei Rei. The latter showed top-class form at 2, and was just touched off by the brilliant Diana's Choice in the Kenilworth Fillies Futurity. Owned by Mrs DD Daniels & Messrs AC De Cerff & K Heinrich, Girl In Every Port looks more than capable of earning black type before retiring to stud.
The winner of 5 races, Girl in Every Port is out of Hard Up mare, Play Hard. Yet another smart performer by Captain Al, who happens to be trained by Justin Snaith, is Rum Ration (bred by Normandy Stud). Placed in the Nursery at 2, Rum Ration won his penultimate start against a big field over 1200 meters.
