Last Saturday saw Klawervlei sires totally dominate Scottsville’s big sprint race meeting. The farm’s flagship sire, Captain Al, was especially impressive, as the sire of one G1 winner, and broodmare sire of another!

This is a feat which is rarely achieved in one race meeting, and is yet another feather in the cap of this magnificent stallion.

His daughter, All Is Secret, stamped herself as a leading contender for Equus award glory when she landed Saturday’s G1 Allan Robertson Championship. Trained by Vaughan Marshall (who trained her sire, and who has enjoyed great success with his progeny), All Is Secret beat some of the country’s top 2yo fillies to stamp herself as something very special. Now a winner of two of her three starts, All is Secret became the fourth G1 winner for Captain Al.

All Is Secret

Captain Al is also the damsire of Potent Power, who caused an upset when winning the G1 Tsogo Medallion. Potent Power gave his sire, Klawervlei’s veteran sire National Emblem, a remarkable third winner of the Medallion – following the wins of Rip Curl and Carnadore. Trained by Dennis Drier, Potent Power has now won three of five, and he too could be in the line for Equus glory at the end of the season. He is the first G1 winner produced by a daughter of Captain Al.

The progeny of National Emblem clearly enjoy Scottsville’s big day, as he is also the sire of last year’s G1 Golden Horse Casino Sprint winner, Shea Shea.

The third winner of the day with strong ties to Klawervlei was Delago Deluxe, who won the G1 Golden Horse Casino Sprint, to stamp himself as one of the hottest sire prospects in the country.

Last year’s Champion 2yo colt will retire to Klawervlei at the end of his racing career. Trained by Charles Laird, Delago Deluxe has now won G1 races at two and three, and this, coupled with a superb pedigree, will ensure that he proves popular in the breeding barn.

Delago Deluxe

Delago Deluxe, a son of Australia’s champion sire Encosta de Lago, has now won seven races, of which three are graded. In Saturday’s big race, Delago Deluxe defeated no fewer than ten graded stakes winners in the Casino Sprint, and he too is likely to be an Equus Nominee – where he may vie for top honours with National Emblem’s fine son, Shea Shea!
